A partition wall in Lake Ozark's new city hall may be removed.
The wall has been sticking point for Alderman Susan Drummond and Robert Davis for the last two board meetings. Alderman Robert Davis asked an architect/consultant to come to last night's meeting and address the topic of stamped drawings.
Alderman Davis says the wall needed a professionally stamped drawing first. City Administrator Dave Van Dee said that city building inspector Charlie Meisenheimer could sign off.
City Attorney Jay Harms addressed both sides.
"I've put a lot of thought into it and done a lot of research on it and I kind of agree with both sides," Harms said. "If there are drawings that are required, I agree with Mr. Mills and Mr. Davis that those drawings should be stamped by a design professional."
Harms says there is no requirement for drawings.
"I can't find anything that contradicts that in the state statutes, or in the IBC, the International Building Code, or the municipal code, that says that we have to have a drawing to put in a partition wall or making non-structural changes to a building."
Harms concluded that Meisenheimer could make the final call on whether or not drawings were required.
Regardless, Alderman Susan Drummond made a motion to have an architect consult the city on the wall within the next six months and determine whether it should come down.
"I'd like to see the wall come down and be placed over closer to the front door where the receptionist sits," Drummond said. "And we don't need Janet Harms up here or our public works director here."
The board approved the motion 4 to 2 with Alderman Larry Buschjost and Judy Neels voting nay. A second motion passed 4 to 2 by with the same roll call vote giving Van Dee the authority to seek bids to consult on the wall. |
