Deadline Could Jeopardize Rocky Mount Plan PDF Print E-mail

A November 1st deadline from the MoDNR and hesitation from the Lake Ozark board of aldermen may jeopardize plans for Rocky Mount's planned sewer expansion.

Rocky Mount Sewer District hopes to run a sewer line through the city of Lake Ozark and hook into the Osage Beach/Lake Ozark joint sewer plant.  The village sewer board has almost two million dollars in stimulus money to perform the hookup covering a first phase of almost 60 people.

Jeff Schug from McClure Engineering is working on Lake Ozark's sewer plan. He also oversaw the engineering aspects of the agreement between Rocky Mount and Lake Ozark.

He says the initial agreement requires Rocky Mount to make upgrades.

"They're paying not in dollars but in upgrades to Lake Ozark's system. They're replacing pumps, three very large pumps in the lift station that they are connecting to, as well as improving just the physical way that the lift station is connected," Schug said. "If I had to put a dollar value on it I'd guess that's maybe about $75,000 worth of upgrades that they'll be making to Lake Ozark's system."

Schug says past the initial upgrades, future upgrades will be paid for proportionate to use.  At the meeting last night, the Lake Ozark board held only the first reading of the ordinance to approve the hook up.

Lake Ozark is waiting for either the Missouri Attorney General or the MoDNR to tell them if Lake Ozark would ultimately be responsible for sewer problems that arose in Rocky Mount.  Prior discussions with the A.G.'s office lead city Attorney Jay Jarms to believe that they would.  The board asked for clarification from the state before the second reading will be held.

With only the first reading last night and an appearance before the joint sewer board scheduled for this afternoon, with issues yet to be raised there, the Sunday deadline may be too soon for Rocky Mount.
