Grants Announced for 9-1-1 Upgrades PDF Print E-mail

The U.S. Department of Commerce is handing out grants to nineteen 9-1-1 call centers across the state to speed up emergency response times.

The state of Missouri will get almost 1.7 million dollars to help the call centers track people calling from wireless and internet connected telephones.

The Missouri Department of Public Safety says the funds will be used to upgrade systems in several ways.  That includes mapping of the callers location, transmission of driving directions to emergency responders, caller ID for all calls in case they are dropped, and instant audio replay of calls in case they're dropped.

Locally, Maries County will get just over $30,000, Moniteau will get over $16,000, and Callaway County will get $35,000. Grants were determined by a state board after local areas provided a needs assessment and matching funds.
