Sunrise Beach a Week Away from Water System PDF Print E-mail

By the end of next week Sunrise Beach will have the first phase of its water system online.

The board of trustees passed several bills last night dealing with the village water works.  The trustees agreed to certify a current employee to be system operator. They agreed to spend about $1,250 to buy an RVS billing system that is currently being used by Gravois Mills and Laurie.  And they also passed the rules, regulations, and rates.

As the first phase nears completion, Trustee Chairman Curt Mooney says it's a positive for the village.

"Yes it is," Mooney said. "We have been sitting here and had delays. We'll get the last few hooked up by the middle of next week and we are in the water business, we can start billing people."

On the bills, commercial customers will be charged $39 a month for 1,000 gallons. Every additional 1,000 gallons or a portion thereof will cost $8.23.  For residential customers, villagers will be charged $39 for 5,000 gallons.  All additional 1,000 gallons or portions thereof will also be $8.23.  New customers will pay $1,000 dollars for a 5/8ths meter. Larger than 5/8ths will be raised based on size.

Mooney says there are some that have refused to be hooked into the system.  He says as the line comes through initially the fee is waived.

"Well it's a mandatory system so whoever doesn't hook up will be turned over to the city attorney and whatever process we have to go through, they will have to hook up."

"They're going to incur a lot of costs if they don't hook up now, the meter fee, deposit fees, and the actual construction and putting the pipe in."

The trustees told their city attorney to craft a letter that will detail the costs to users who do not want to hook up.
