Osage Beach Employees Raises Will Remain At Current Levels PDF Print E-mail

Osage Beach employees will get their regular raises after an attempt to reduce them at a recent special budget session.

The board held its third and final special session on the 2010 budget on Wednesday. The board looked closely at the system the city uses to hand out annual bonuses. The current cost of living matrix offers some employees as much a 7% pay increase, some getting 5%, and others 3%.

In an effort to trim the budget but keep pay raises intact, Alderman Kevin Rucker made a formal motion to adjust the salary matrix to reduce the raises to 3%, 2%, and 1%.

"Exactly how much that is is really not that important to me, the amount," Rucker said. "It's the fact that I think it should be in perspective to what the cost of living has been, to what our citizens out there are seeing, the benefits that they are seeing, and that we keep our employees in line with the employees of our city."

Rucker's motion in special session failed by a 4-2 vote, with Rucker and Alderman Steve Kahrs voting in favor.  Aldermen John Olivarri, Lois Farmer, Ron Schmitt, and David Gasper voted "no."

Osage Beach spends about 24% of its annual budget on employee salary.
