A process that began in the village of Sunrise Beach back in June of 2007 is now complete.
The board of trustees approved the village zoning and subdivision ordinances at last night’s meeting.
Charlie Bott is a trustee and a member of the village planning and zoning commission.
“It’s all said and done,” Bott said. “It’s been adopted by the board. The maps have been adopted. So from here on it’s law, I guess you would call it. People that want to change it, now they go through the process of applying for a zoning change or a conditional use or something like that."
The idea of planning and zoning in Sunrise Beach came up after Shady Gators owner Gary Prewitt attempted to annex property across the lake at the 7 MM to avoid Camden County planning and zoning rules.
“Shortly after that I think,” Bott said. “Then I think another thing was the problem with a quarry. They’ve got to do something to have some control.”
One resident left last night’s meeting in protest. Two more questioned the zoning they were given. Board attorney Greg Williams explained last night that current non-conforming uses that are in place will be allowed to continue operation. If a landowner wants to apply for a rezone they can now follow the rezoning procedure.
