The board approved the move last night after City Administrator Dave Van Dee addressed issues that were raised by Aldermen Robert Davis at the last board meeting. After the sepcial session, Van Dee said the grant application, if approved, will help create a fund to do the 12.5 million dollar Horseshoe Bend Parkway. "It's one fund source, they have many more to go," Van Dee said. "It's about one third of what they actually need." "The point with the board was this action is simply, 'Do you support submission of the grant or not?' The proceeds from the grant will go to start building a road." The grant could get the city 4 million dollars from the Missouri Department of Economic Development. Van Dee says the aldermen's concerns about land that could be traded if the project goes forward were not part of this grant application. "We as a body will visit the funding issue on an annual basis and if the funds are available we may make them available to you but I did not see where it was hard and fast that it was a guarantee." "And again that goes back to [the fact] this board can't commit a future board to a budget decision five years down the road. That board will make that decision at that point." The agreement for the land was between the Stanton Development Group, MoDOT and the city. Van Dee says the land matter will come up again. "I didn't see where the issue that he was raising was really an issue at this point," Van Dee said. "That's not to say it can't become an issue in the future, cause I'm learning a lot of things can become issues here." The board also agreed last night to cancel their October 13th meeting in order to make it easier to transition city hall to its new building. |
