New charges under a new law could put a Brumley man behind bars for the rest of his life.

Twenty-one-year old Aaron Michael Fisher was arrested last Wednesday afternoon after he brought his daughter to Lake Regional Hospital. The five month old had a broken leg, fractured skull, previously broken ribs, and internal injuries suffered during an apparent assault by her father.

Fisher was originally charged with two felony counts of stautory sodomy. Miller County Prosecutor Matt Howard has now filed charges of first degree assault, child abuse and two counts of forcible sodomy.  The forcible sodomy charge comes from Missouri Senate Bill 36 from Senator Jack Goodman of Mount Vernon. The measure took effect about two months ago and enhanced the penalty for forcible sodomy of a child less than 12 years of age. Now if a case is determined to be outrageously or wantonly vile, horrible or inhumane, in that it involved torture or depravity of mind, a sentence becomes mandatory.

If convicted, Fisher would receive a life sentence without the possibility of probation, parole, or conditional release. Fisher remains jailed in Miller County without bond.
