Nixon announced his "Work Now" initiative yesterday at separate events in Liberty and Springfield. The initiative will couple $146 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds with $120 million in state funds to help fund 60 waste water and drinking water projects across the state. The Environmental Protection Agency has approved the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Intended Use Plan submissions. The MoDNR's use plans include a $1.2 million grant for the city of Linn Creek to help build a drinking water system. Tipton will get $3 million and Warsaw will get $1.87 million to build waste water systems. Nixon says too many Missourians are out of work and that is why the money is being put into the various communities, to get construction workers and skilled tradesmen back to work right away. All money has to be obligated to the individual communities by February 17th of 2010. |
