Phase two of the widening of Highway 5 is on the minds of MoDOT and the village of Sunrise Beach.

Tomorrow the Missouri Department of Transportation will officially receive the application from the village requesting a cost share on the road project. At Monday's trustee meeting, Michael Dusenberg of MoDOT detailed the specifics of the second phase of widening.

"This phase two project would start at the First National Bank and run all the way north about a mile, 1.1 miles, to near Jet Ski Road just north of the Hurricane Deck School," Dusenberg said.

Cost share with MoDOT requires a 50% match by the village.  Dusenberg says MoDOT will cover some of the roughly $1.4 million cost.

"District 5 MoDOT, we will actually do the engineering work, develop the plans, we'll also provide the inspection of the construction just like we are doing the first phase."

If the village fronts the entire amount of money the project could get started as early as 2011 and be re-imbursed later up to 50%. If no money is fronted, the application tomorrow will be for 2014 MoDOT dollars.

Phase one of the widening project, which is being paid for by stimulus, extends north for one mile from Highway F and is set to be complete this winter.
