The board and Local 3987 signed off on the two year contract last night. Michael Bohrn is the shop steward for Local 3987. He says originally the two sides had tried for a three year contract. "We started talking the three year halfway through the year so it was technically two years and six months," Bohrn said, "but negotiations took those six months up so we're at two." Over this past spring and summer the fire board had a salary study completed to determine if firefighters were being paid correctly. Some were being paid more than they were supposed to be, some less. The study also looked at insurance contributions and benefit packages. Bohrn says all of those matters are resolved with the new contract. "All of that has been fixed. Everybody understands it and it's right now. We have got it all figured out." The pay increase in the firefighters contract is tied to the federal cost of living increase. Firemen will get a maximum of a 4% increase and a minimum of a 2% increase in their base pay according to state statute. |
