There is still no name for the victim of an explosion and fire Tuesday near Macks Creek but the Missouri State Fire Marshal has determined a cause.

The Southwest Fire Protection District was called to the 900 block of Mill School road at 8 o’clock Tuesday night.  Southwest Fire Chief Ron Richards said that a garage had caught fire after an explosion. One man died in the blaze, one man was sent to the St. John's Hospital burn unit.

Richards turned the case over to the state fire marshal. State Fire Marshal Randy Cole released the cause of the fire on Friday.

“Based upon the investigator's review of the scene and also information obtained from witnesses, it appears, or indications are that these two individuals were attempting to ignite a wood burning stove by using a gas/oil mixture,” Cole said.

    Cole says the fumes ingnited.

“As they attempted to ignite that the vapors from the flammable liquids ignited causing an explosion,” he added.
