The city of Osage Beach is adding four more Dodge Chargers to its police fleet.

The board of aldermen approved the purchase on Thursday at a total price of just over $82,000.  The vehicles will be purchased from Odessa Ford, Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge. The $20,000 price per car comes from the Mid-America Regional Council bid.

Police Chief Dave Severson says the city will add consoles and computers to the cars using the Central Missouri Regional Justice Information System Program that earmarked money on the federal level.  Severson says the first sixteen Chargers were taken care of under the program last year.

“Year one was the first sixteen and year two will be the next four and some software upgrades, RMS upgrades, mapping, certain other add-on modules to the RMS-CAD system,” the chief said.

The program that earmarked the federal money is in its second of three years.

“Year three, I understand, is in the appropriations bill for Ike Skelton. Our executive committee will get together and put plans together for what new technology we want to look at in year three.”

Looking at timeframes it will take 90 to 120 days to receive the four new Chargers.  Chief Severson hopes to have them online by May of 2010.
