A Rocky Mount woman is hospitalized in Columbia after an accident yesterday (11/10) afternoon in Cole County.

The incident happened at 4:20 on Highway 54 at Pleasant Hill.  52-year-old Dorothy Sturgis of Rocky Mount was driving her 1990 Honda west on Highway 54. 82-year-old Vincel Wood of Eldon pulled through the highway median in his 2005 Ford attempting to merge with traffic and hit the Honda. The Honda went off the right side of the road, the Ford overturned in the roadway.

Sturgis, the driver of the Honda, was not wearing her seat belt and suffered serious injuries.  She was life flighted to University Hospital.  Wood, who was driving the overturned Ford, was belted in and suffered minor injuries.  He was treated at the scene and released.
