Pulaski County Sheriff's Deputy Donald Hayden received a Medal of Valor for stopping a shooting rampage in Dixon last June.
Hayden responded to a domestic violence report at a mobile home park in Dixon that involved gunfire and bludgeoning with a pistol. Attacker Rex Pennebaker left the scene, but returned to the trailer court. Hayden stopped Pennebaker's vehicle with his patrol car, and a close range shootout ensued. The two men fired more than twenty shots. Pennebaker shot Deputy Hayden four times, but was eventually taken into custody and goes to trial in January.
Hayden received his Medal of Valor from Governor Jay Nixon on Thursday. |
